APPLICATION, TESTING, AND EMPLOYMENT

The Office of the Secretary of State has offices and facilities throughout the State of Illinois. Drivers' licensing and/or motor vehicle facilities are located in most Illinois counties. A greater number of positions are concentrated in Springfield (Sangamon County) and Chicago (Cook County). The Department of Personnel does not maintain or publish a list of vacancies. Instead, positions are filled on an as-needed basis upon request of the various departments of the Office.

Inquiries pertaining to applications or job requirements are handled through the Department of Personnel. The Office of the Secretary of State utilizes its own application forms. One completed application is required when taking written or typing examinations at the Springfield or Chicago test centers. A separate application for each title is required for training and experience examinations. Mail applications for training and experience examinations to one of the addresses below. The Chicago and Springfield test centers are also at the below locations.

Applicants wishing to be counseled concerning examinations or recommended titles, may contact our Springfield or Chicago Offices. Job counseling services are provided as time permits.

Based on the operating needs of the Office of the Secretary of State, job opportunities for individual titles may vary considerably. Examinations are held for the purpose of establishing open competitive eligible listings from which appointments to merit positions may be made in accordance with the needs of the Office of the Secretary of State.
