COMMERCIAL DRIVER TRAINING

The Secretary of State's Commercial Driver Training Section licenses and regulates Commercial Driver Training Schools that provide driving instruction or test preparation for a fee.

Driver training schools and instructors must be licensed to legally provide this service. (The law does not apply to public schools or to education institutions in which driving is part of the curriculum.)

The office also administrates the Third Party Certification Program, which allows companies and government agencies to provide training along with skills testing certification for their employees (Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/6-508, (2).
